My first MRI, the horror story that reminded me of a few things

Today, I had a medical check done, which I had never done before, and I was so scared of it. I had an MRI done on my cervical spine and need, the more important one, on my head, but this will take me another four weeks of waiting.

I waited two and a half weeks for this one, terrified, but I did my best to keep a positive outlook.

Disclaimer: I don’t want to scare anyone from getting an MRI. I am diagnosed with anxiety, and things like this are rough for me. And as much as I find this machine interesting, I'm terrified of it. Your health is worth being scared of something and doing it anyway, as long as you feel like it’s not your intuition screaming not to do it.

And that is the first thing:

Try to have a good and positive outlook on difficult situations

Was it still horrible for me? Yes.

But I feel like it would be way worse if I only thought about it’s going to be bad.

I did my best through the weeks and did the best I could on this day. Even when I wanted to cancel the appointment a thousand times that morning. Another important thing:

Plan a reward

When you know you have something tough, reward yourself. Whatever this is for you, maybe a coffee, maybe a book, maybe a self-care day. It’s a good thing to find something you know you will love.

TW: BLOOD

I had a horrible day, spent more time crying with nurses around me, and I almost bled out on my arteries. Never seen people run so fast as my blood dripped everywhere while I started leaving the hospital.

So, back it was, getting treated. Getting nauseous. Getting dizzy. And at the end of it, I was lying down, freshly badged, listening to loud MRI noise from the one patient behind me.

I wanted to go home.

But I was there, waiting for a few more minutes till I was feeling good enough to get up. It makes you think about a lot, I said it in my posts before, and take me as an example: Your health is so important. If you take anything from me, let it be this: never take your health for granted.

I got myself more treats than anything after this:

  • Had a childhood thing from the bakery

  • Coffee immediately

  • Lie down in my parents’ bed, since I couldn’t do it anymore

  • Ordered my favourite take-out that I promised myself

After everything, I tried to have a good day even when I felt off. My headache is annoying me because of the stress it has caused. My entire body hurts from being so stiff. And writing this with a bruise on my arteries, hurts like hell.

My highlight was showing my family my cervical spine (Yes, I am that weird friend), and I was happy to talk about this.

It’s important even in horrible situations or days to make it better, even with the smallest things, for your own mental health.

I absolutely do not look forward to repeating this entire thing in a month again, but I have to. And I already made a little plan for myself for that day!

I apologize if there are a few mistakes in here. I did my best with proofreading and editing, but sometimes my brain doesn’t catch mistakes at the moment.

xx
