The self-love Sunday challenge
Something I started a bit ago is the ‘self-love Sunday challenge,’ something I came up with when I started working on self-love, and it’s one of the best things I have done. This one thing alone, just once a week, even when I incorporate this a bit more in my week now, but it was a Sunday thing in the past.
How does it work?
It’s already in the title, but let me explain: Every Sunday, I choose one or two things that I will do on that day. It helped me immensely to work on my self-love journey, since I think it’s really important.
Self-love for me is not only self-care but also standing up for yourself, and sometimes even doing the things you don’t want to, but are good for you. It’s choosing yourself and standing up for yourself even when it is hard.
And the benefits of it are huge, you will have more self-respect for yourself, stand up for what you know is helping you, and even choose people who add joy to your life. Not the one that drags you down, you won’t have a desire to hang around them just because you feel like you have to.
So, every Sunday I choose one thing for myself, no matter what this means, sometimes it’s self-care, and sometimes it’s a little more in a direction I might not want to do at the moment, but I know will help. Let me give you some examples in different sections:
1. Pampering
One of my favorite things to do on Sunday is a little spa time for myself, a lovely moment to unwind, and spend some time caring for myself.
It’s one of the things you can do in a way that fits you and your needs, or even your space. I have a bathtub, so I could do a lovely bath with bath bombs and salts, light up some candles, put on a facemask, and watch something on my Mac. Sometimes I even read.
But honestly? Most of the time I just take an everything shower, listening to some music. Some other things you could do:
Everything shower
Bath
Face mask, maybe make some of them at home if you are on a budget. There are some great ones.
Have some tea while doing your skin care
Gua sha with your favorite oil
You can put a towel on the heater, so you have a warm towel after your shower
Light up a candle while doing your pampering, and have some essential oils to create a lovely atmosphere.
2. For the mind
Everyone has something they do for their mind, it helps you calm down and relax a little from the hectic life. But it’s also a form of self-love to work on your mind, I argue; it’s one of the most important things.
If you work and invest in your mind, that is going to improve your life and your entire being. I am sure that while you are reading this, you have at least one thing in mind that helps you with this.
For me, it’s writing, letting my entire thoughts pour out of me in ink on paper or on a document when I am writing. A lovely walk in nature, being in the forest is not only a physical walking exercise for me, but a time to recharge.
There are so many things you could try.
A walk in your favorite area
Journal
And/or free writing your thoughts
Meditation
If you are religious, it could be praying
Mindless drawing can help clear your mind, too, and it could also allow you to reflect
Do brain workouts
Work on yourself to get to know yourself
3. Physical
Yes, it’s also a form of self-love. Not only physical in a working out way, but it is also something for your mind. I put all physical aspects in here!
Sure, you should move your body not only once a week, I mean, we all know this. Even the smallest movements are better than not moving at all. So, let me get into the examples already:
Dance it out, dance around your space
Working out, do your favorite workout that makes you forget you are even working out
Go for a walk
Have a Sunday reset routine to clean your physical space. I know sometimes we don’t want to do this, but it’s important for a lot more than just a clean space. You will take care of yourself, giving yourself self-respect to live in a clean environment, and it also helps your mind.
Do one task you have been avoiding for some time, I promise it will make you feel so accomplished
4. Do something you love
Fill your Sundays with hobbies, interests, or anything that makes you full of joy. The break day you need, it will heal your very soul. Everyone needs those moments, where you can get lost in the little or big interests you have. Something that makes your heart beam with joy.
For everyone who might look different, yet moments like these are so essential. I love doing this every day; it fills me with joy, but everyone has a different schedule, so at least do it on a Sunday.
Spend time doing your hobbies
Read for a few hours, or however much time you have
Start learning a new language
Bake a recipe you've always wanted to try
Have a movie marathon with your favorite movies or new ones
Maybe even learn a new thing, method, or even hobby. I have a post about ten cozy hobbies if you want to check it out for some ideas.
Plan this challenge into your Sundays, I promise you will see a change over time. It can help you focus more on your goals and help with your mind, too.
You can also add planning your week into your Sundays, and organize a little more if that is something you like. I love doing this, I even have my self-care scheduled in since it’s important.
If you like, you can add in the comments if you have some favorite self-love or self-care habits you love doing that changed your life for the better.
xx
Lena
